Basic 40 hours Mediation Training

Mediation is one of the methods of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) where a third neutral party is appointed to help the parties involved in the dispute come to a mutually agreed settlement.

Undertaking mediation does not require a law background and will benefit all who wish to gain an understanding of resolving disputes through mediation.

During the training we will train on the following topics:

  • The principles of mediation
  • The role of the mediator, parties, and lawyers
  • Three Pillars of Mediation Proceedings
  • Ethical codes of conduct for mediators
  • Cognitive biases that impact decision making


Participants will gain the following skills:              

  • Preparing for and starting the mediation proceedings
  • Active listening through reframing, reflecting back, summarizing, and paraphrasing
  • Managing emotions - the role of empathy and compassion
  • Identifying interests and generating options
  • Reality testing, working through impasse and reaching an agreement
